How can you use Google Hangouts for your own recruiting? Here are a few ideas:
Highlight job openings
Hold monthly Hangouts to discuss current job openings, and invite hiring managers to participate and talk about their company culture and workflow. You can focus on one job or multiple jobs, but stick to a regular monthly Hangout, coordinated with people from the companies with the openings.
This will attract active and passive job seekers and students looking for internships. Make your recruiting Hangouts do double duty and record them to post on your (or your client’s) blog, website or social media platforms for non-attendees to view.
Hangout on campus (without leaving your desk)
Google Hangouts are a great way to visit college campuses and recruit for new graduates and college interns without spending a dime on travel and accommodations.
Contact advisors and professors in academic programs related to the positions and companies you’re recruiting for and ask about speaking to students through Hangouts. Get face time with top students in the programs that relate to the positions you seek to fill.
Offer to discuss the positions, the employers and the work expected of new hires. Remember to offer advice on resumes, portfolios, interviews and other valuable job search information in on-campus Hangouts. If the company seeking to hire has any alumni on staff, ask them to join the Hangout and discuss the company culture and why they chose to work there.
Use Hangouts for interviews
Save time and money in the selection process by using Google Hangouts to conduct screening interviews and pre-interviews. Use Hangouts to conference with candidates sourced from LinkedIn, Facebook, forums and other areas. Invite candidates to discuss their skills and experience, and invite the hiring manager and several key personnel from the company to discuss the work and the culture.
Once you’ve narrowed down the pool of candidates, the recruiter, hiring manager or an interview panel can use the private Hangout feature to conduct confidential interviews.
Google Hangouts provides the flexibility and cost-effectiveness missing from old school face-to-face interviews for candidates and employers in different geographic locations.
Create live YouTube broadcasts
Get together with the hiring manager and the employees who will work with the new hire and conduct an informal Hangout. You can talk about the job opening and company culture and then stream it live on either your or the company’s YouTube channel.
Live broadcasts are an excellent tool to communicate openings and candidate searches, build the employer brand and build your candidate pool. Ask for referrals, give specifics about qualifications for openings and present contact information for candidates to get in touch.
