Building a Successful HR Career
Keith shares his career journey from starting in operations to moving into HR, emphasizing the importance of talent development and the joy of working in HR with a focus on the human element. "Interestingly enough, I started my career early on as we all did in college, studied nursing and found out quickly that nursing wasn't necessarily the niche that I was hoping for. So as such I kind of moved gears and started operating operations and for enterprise holdings...I really started in my career on the operational side and then moved into HR. And I haven't looked back since, and so that's kind of where I've ended up. And it's a passion."
Gaining Business Acumen in HR
Keith highlights the value of understanding the business side of HR by building strong relationships with other departments and learning how the company generates profits and manages costs. "So, if you have the opportunity. Work closely with your finance partners, get to know their day to day, and understand from a business perspective, you know what what's keeping the the business running... If you can speak the language of your partners in the business, you're going to have much more street credibility with them."

In HR transformations, Keith advises focusing on improving the end user experience, considering scalability, and listening more to understand the needs of stakeholders. "Everything that I do from a transformation perspective has to enhance the end user experience. If it's not going to do that, then for me, the ROI isn't worth the investment.”

"One of the things is the failures. And I keep failures at the top of the list, because I never want to make the same mistake again. "Because yes, it does take human capital to keep the business running, but there's a lot more components in that. And if you can speak the language of your partners in the business.
