This Year’s Priority for Higher Education Professionals? Engagement

Jun 11, 2015 -
What are higher education career and alumni staffs focused on for the upcoming academic year? We asked, and you answered at our online networking event last month. While many of our events are hosted by individual colleges and universities who want to engage with their communities, this event offered a chance for staff members, regardless of their institution’s size or location, to connect. Through a series of one-on-one chats with their peers, more than 100 staffers joined us to discuss what’s on the horizon not only for their schools, but also for higher education careers. “We target individuals in alumni and career services, but the events are really open to anyone in higher ed interested in growing their network, discussing industry topics and learning more about the Brazen platform as it relates to connecting students, alumni and other university audiences,” said Brazen account manager Ben Simmons.

Higher education staffers are all about engagement

So, what’s on your mind, higher-ed professionals? The participants in our latest chat responded to the question, “What are your key goals/focuses for the 2015-2016 school year?” We popped the responses into a word cloud (shown above) to look at the bigger picture for the year ahead. Overwhelmingly, engagement is a major focus. Higher education staffers want to connect with their student and alumni communities on a deeper level. Often tied to matters of engagement? The word “meaningful.” “The additional keyword indicates teams want to provide niche and focused programs of relevance to their alumni,” Simmons said. Another interesting occurrence: the high frequency of words like “build” and “building” -- or launching new initiatives or programs. We’re excited to see what you’re building over the course of the upcoming academic year. Want to know more about what we chatted about? Take a look at the word cloud above and get inspired for a productive year. Better yet, join us for our next chat! You don’t even need to be a Brazen customer to connect with other higher education professionals. Mark your calendar for June 17, 2015 and register today. Lisa Rowan edits the Brazen Careerist blog.
